Elon Musk is the world's richest person that Born to a Canadian mother and a father from South Africa, Musk was raised in Pretoria, South Africa. He was born on June 28, 1971. He has a younger brother, Kimbal (born 1972), who was an early business partner, and a younger sister, Tosca (born 1974), the CEO of the Passionflix video streaming platform. His maternal grandfather was an American-born Canadian, Joshua Haldeman. His paternal grandmother had Dutch ancestry, both in Britain and Pennsylvania.

Musk lived mainly with his father in the suburbs of Pretoria after his parents separated in 1980, a decision he made two years after the divorce and eventually regretted. Musk was unloved from his father, whom he described as "a terrible human being." Almost every evil thing you could think of was done by him. He even has a half-sister and a half-brother on his father's side.

Until graduating from Pretoria Boys High School, he attended Waterkloof House Preparatory School and Bryanston High SchoolElon.Musk, who arrived in Canada in June 1989, struggled in Montreal to find his great-uncle and instead lived in a youth hostel. He then moved west to live in Saskatchewan with a second cousin. He lived there for a year, working strange jobs at a farm and a lumber mill. Musk joined Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario in 1990 when he was 17.

Two years later, he transferred to the University of Pennsylvania, where he earned a dual bachelor's degree in economics and physics. In 1995, he moved to California to begin his Ph.D. Stanford University in applied physics and materials, but dropped out after two days to pursue a career in industry. Compaq acquired Zip2, a campaign for online applications, in 1999.

Elon Musk is the world’s richest person who disclosed a design for a high-speed transportation system on August 12, 2013, that integrates reduced-pressure tubes in which pressurized capsules travel on an air cushion powered by linear induction motors and air compressors. In a white paper published on the Tesla and SpaceX blogs, the alpha design for the system was published.

He co-founded OpenAI in 2015, a nonprofit research firm aimed at fostering friendly artificial intelligence. He co-founded Neuralink, a neurotechnology business focused on creating brain-computer interfaces, in July 2016. The Boring Company, an infrastructure and tunnel building firm focusing on tunnels optimized for electric vehicles, was founded by Musk in December 2016. He envisioned an open-source high-speed transport system known as the Hyperloop built on the idea of a vactrain, in addition to his primary business pursuits.

The paper scoped out the technology and proposed a notional route where such a transport system could be built at an approximate total cost of $6 billion Between the Los Angeles Greater Area and the Bay Area of San Francisco.

In 2018, he was elected a Royal Society(FRS) fellow. He was ranked 25th on the Forbes list of the world's most influential people that year as well and was ranked joint-first on the Forbes list of 2019's most visionary leaders. For a week, in January 2021, Musk became the richest person in the world, a centi-billionaire.

He co-founded openAl in 2015, a non-profit research company aimed at fostering friendly artificial intelligence.

Because of unorthodox views and widely publicized scandals, he also has been the subject of criticism. Following the rejection of a tesla prototype submarine that musk had proposed to be used in the 2018 Tham Luang cave rescue, he insulted the driver who recommended and rejected the prototype in the rescue and sued the driver for defamation in response; the California jury ruled in favor of musk.

He also falsely tweeted in 2018 that, at $420 a share, he had secured financing for a private takeover of Tesla. He was sued by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) for the allegation. He settled with the SEC, stepping down temporarily from his presidency and acknowledging restrictions on his use of Twitter. For his views on artificial intelligence, public transit, and the COVID-19 pandemic, Musk has received considerable criticism.
